riverford organic vegetables – upper norton farm
Guy Watson began farming in 1985 on three acres of Riverford, the Watson family farm based in South Devon. With the land fully converted to organic status in 1987, Guy began delivering his vegetables to local shops, including his brother’s farm shops. Ten years later Riverford’s pioneering idea had grown to become one of the country’s favourite box schemes.
As Riverford outgrew its Devon base, we began looking for sister farms to grow veg closer to our customers. The Janaways at Upper Norton Farm have farmed for many generations, have mud on their boots and talk with enthusiasm about their land and crops. Duncan, the youngest of the four sons, grows most of the vegetables. He is full of enthusiasm, as are neighbouring growers who grow more specialist crops for the boxes.
James MacGregor has moved from Riverford in Devon to run the Norton box barn, bringing the Riverford ethos and a determination to make the Norton boxes even better.
